Arsenal try to resign Matthew Upson from West Ham

West Ham have insisted that they will reject any bids for England centre-back Matthew Upson. Arsenal are believed to have made an offer for the player that they let leave the club back in 2003 for £1m. Upson has since gone on to establish himself as a regular in Fabio Capello's England squad.

According to reports on the back pages, the Gunners have offered Danish striker Niklas Bendtner as part of the potential deal to bring Upson back to his former club. But West Ham chief executive Scott Duxburry has insisted that the club will not sell its best players despite the precarious financial situation at Upton Park.

Manchester City are reported to have bid £12m for Hammers' skipper Scott Parker as well as an astonishing £20m for striker Craig Bellamy. While Duxburry said that no players would leave West Ham in January he did later add that "each approach will be considered in terms of fee, fitness, form and where the manager thinks the player is in his career". The time may have arrived to cash in on both Parker and Bellamy as City go on a spending spree.
