Arsenal take on Liverpool in all English quarter-final

Arsenal take on Liverpool tonight at the Emirates Stadium in an all English Champions League quarter-final. But who is going to come out tops over the two legs? Well according to the The Sun's third leg, Arsene Wenger has claimed that his team are 'Gunstoppable' and can beat anyone, well as long as they're not Chelsea, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Wigan or Boro.

Speaking ahead of tonight's game the cunning French linguist seemed to lose the run of himself: "It is all about producing a good performance on the day. If we do that we'll beat everybody in the world. So I will tell my players to go out and play with no fear."   WTF!? Arsenal to beat everyone in the world? They're a good team and all, but 11 against 6.60 billion doesn't seem like a fair fight.

Anyway, Wenger was responding to the challenge laid down by Liverpool captain Stevie and the GeeGees. Gerard claimed that the Reds are the one team that Arsenal fear in the Champions League. The man that may have Wenger & Co cacking their short shorts tonight is Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard has scored 28 goals in all competitions this year and seems to have taken to English football like the proverbial duck. Arsenal will be without Bacary Sagna while Mascherano returns from suspension for Liverpool following his red card against Manchester United.

But the one niggling issue about this game is if it's a good thing to have four clubs from the same country in the last eight? These games, like the Chelsea-Liverpool semis which blotted Mourhino's Chelsea copybook, just don't create the same excitement as other Champions League games.

With Chelsea up against Zico's Fenerbahce in tonight's other quarter-final, the prospect of another all English semi is on the cards. Not wanting to sound like a broken record but surely the Champions League would be better if it only featured domestic league winners no matter the quality of the football. Here's dreaming.
