Arsenal look to buy Joe Hart

Arsenal are set to make a bid for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart when the transfer window opens according to reports on a number of back pages today.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Birmingham City and is the prime contender to replace Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski who have both failed to convince Arsene Wenger.

However, City may be unwilling to sell Hart after their No1, Shay Given, picked up a shoulder injury which will see him miss the start of next season giving the England hopeful a chance to nail down a first team place.

Arsenal’s season has been punctuated by the patchy form of Almunia while Fabianski, his understudy, has made a number of costly mistakes in big matches.

The Gunners have been linked with France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as well as Juventus No1 Gigi Buffon, who expressed an interest in moving to the Premier League earlier today, but it appears that Hart is viewed as the long term answer to the London club’s goalkeeping problems.
