Arsenal are considering a move for veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon on a free transfer from Juventus according to a number of reports on the back pages today.
Arsene Wenger could turn to the 33-year-old to solve the Gunners’ long-term goalkeeping problems who is expected to leave Juve on a free transfer this summer.
A potential stumbling block for any possible move to north London would be Buffon’s reported £125,000-a-week salary as well as his persistent injury problems.
Buffon has made it clear in the past that he would be interested in a move to the Premier League with London his favoured destination.
Manchester City were reported to be interested in signing the World Cup winner until Joe Hart established himself as a goalkeeper of international quality this season.
‘Juventus? I don't know, we will have to evaluate things with the club. What we do know is that he still has a two-year deal there,’ Buffon’s agent Silvano Martina told reporters.
‘As for Manchester City I don't believe so as they have the England national goalkeeper and I know Mancini is happy with him. Therefore there is no possibility.’
