Arsenal beat Serie A side Roma 1-0 last night thanks to a Robin van Persie penalty on 37 minutes. The Gunners dominated the match with Samir Nasri and Abou Diaby the best players on the pitch by a country mile.
Nicklas Bendtner spurned a number of good chances to increase Arsenal's lead, but the Danish striker again showed that he has the first touch of an lame elephant much to the anger of the home crowd. Marco Motta produced Roma's best chance with a powerful run and long-range shot which Manuel Almunia did well to push around the post.
The pantomime villain of the evening was Roma's hapless defender Simone Loria who produced an error strewn performance. A Loria howler let Emmanuel Eboué in on goal late in the second half, but the Ivory Coast international spurned yet another gilt-edged chance to put the Gunners 2-0 up.
