Arsenal 2 Sunderland 0

Arsenal bounced back from their 2-1 midweek defeat to Porto in the Champions League with a win over Sunderland at The Emirates this afternoon.

Nicklas Bendtner gave the Gunners the lead on 27 minutes. The Danish striker slotted home an Emmanuel Eboue cross after finding himself unmarked at the back post.

Arsene Wenger recalled Manuel Almunia following Lukasz Fabianski's horror show on Wednesday despite the fact that the Spaniard is still suffering from a finger injury.

The 34-year-old keeper justified his manager's choice with a brilliant save from Fraizer Campbell, but that was as good as it got for Steve Bruce's out of sorts Sunderland side.

Despite dominating the game Arsenal had to wait until the 90th minute to make sure of the points. Fabregas was fouled in the box by Campbell and stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty.
