Arsenal 2 Stoke City 0

Arsenal bounced back from successive defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City with a convincing 2-0 win over Stoke City at the Emirates yesterday afternoon. The result sees the Gunners leapfrog North London rivals Spurs into third place.

Andrei Arshavin, pressed into service as a lone striker with Robin van Persie, Nicolas Bendtner and Eduardo all out injured, was the hero on the day scoring Arsenal's opener late in the second half. The Russian made amends for Cesc Fabregas' earlier penalty miss with a neat finish from a tight angle.

Arsene Wenger's pushed hard for a second goal in the second half but had to wait until 10 minutes from time when teenage midfielder Aaron Ramsey kept his cool and sealed the win with a clinical finish.

The result was just the shot in the arm that Arsenal needed after last week's demoralizing loss to Chelsea at the Emirates in the league coupled with the midweek hammering of, albeit a reserve side, by Manchester City in the Carling Cup.
