Andy Murray breezes into second round

Andy Murray looked on fine form last night as he breezed past Latvian Ernests Gulbis in a comfortable fashion, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5, to put himself in the second round of the US Open.

While Gublis is ranked at 95 in the world and should have been a fairly easy contest for Murray, he was predicted to be a future world number one only 18 months ago, so he clearly has the talent to pull off big strokes and maybe even upset a top seed like Murray. However the Scot kept his nerve and let the gap in class do the rest.

‘I played well tonight,’ Murray said. ‘It was great fun. I've always wanted to play night matches since I was a boy, so I hope to play more and keep going.’
