Andy Murray beats Ernests Gulbis in straight sets
Andy Murray beat Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in straight sets on Centre Court yesterday to secure his passage into the third round at Wimbledon.
The British number one needed just an hour and 28 minutes to dispatch his opponent in ruthless fashion winning the match 6-2 7-5 6-3.
Murray was criticized after his unconvincing first-round victory over American Robert Kendrick, but silenced the doubters with an excellent performance.
The Scot was delighted with his second round efforts: "I served really great," Murray said. "I didn't give him many opportunities at all. I served a lot better than the first match. I had a few nerves and tension in the first match but today I was a bit more relaxed and it was good."
Murray continued: "I was very happy with the way I played. If I serve like that for the rest of the tournament I'll have a good chance."
