Andy Carroll to make England debut against France

Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson will make their England debuts in the friendly match against France tomorrow night at Wembley.

Newcastle United striker Carroll looked set to miss the game through injury, but Fabio Capello confirmed that Carroll is fit to play and will line out alongside Sunderland midfielder Henderson and Arsenal youngster Kieran Gibbs.

‘He[Carroll]'s OK. He's fit. He'll play tomorrow,’ the England manager said. ‘He'll start in the first XI along with Henderson and Gibbs.’

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been forced to pull out of the game through injury, but Don Fabio is hopeful that Phil Jagielka and Joe Hart will be fit to play after missing training today.

‘Wilshere is going home. Jagielka has flu but we think he will be OK tomorrow. Hart, the doctor is waiting to decide what happened. We think it will not be a big problem for him,’ Capello said.

When quizzed about problems in Carroll’s private life Capello replied: ‘I think you have to help him because he made a mistake but he is really young. I think everyone makes mistakes during their life and you have to help the young ones.’

The Italian continued: ‘He's a good player and I think he will understand, to stay with the senior [squad] will be really important for him because all the people, the newspapers, journalists will be focused on his life. I think he will improve.’

Capello urged the Wembley crowd to get behind England’s young players. ‘The three players [Carroll, Henderson and Gibbs], we have to support them if the performances are not okay.’
