Almunia to miss Arsenal's trip to Belgrade

Manuel Almunia will miss Arsenal’s trip to Serbia to take on Partizan Belgrade in the Champions League tomorrow evening.

The error-prone goalkeeper made yet another high-profile mistake in Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion helping the Midlands club to seal a famous win.

‘We have Manuel Almunia out,’ Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told reporters today. ‘He has a problem with his elbow. He caught it when he made the penalty on Saturday.’

When quizzed if the Spaniard had been dropped following his below-par display on Saturday Wenger replied: ‘No. [The goalkeeper] is always the easy target, the easy scapegoat. But we win together and we lose together even if people think he made a mistake on the second goal.’

Sadly for Gunners fans Lukasz Fabianski - Almunia’s understudy – has been less than convincing to date. Flappyhandski, as he is affectionately known to opposition supporters, conceded a number of soft goals in the Champions League clash with Porto last season.
