Aleksandar Kolarov signs for Manchester City

Manchester City have completed the signing of Serbian left-back Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio for an undisclosed fee reported to be somewhere in the region of £18.9m

The 24-year-old defender passed a medical yesterday before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal and his arrival would appear to call into question Wayne Bridge’s future at Eastlands.

City manager Roberto Mancini spoke to reporters about his new signing: ‘I first saw Kolarov in his Lazio debut back in 2007. I have watched him a lot since then and so have the Manchester City scouts.’

‘His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy. He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield.’

The Italian continued: ‘This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him. I am looking forward to working with him.’

Kolarov’s arrival brings City’s summer spending to £80m following the signings of David Silva, Yaya Toure and Jerome Boateng with Mario Balotelli and James Milner also expected to join the club before the start of the new Premier League season.
