AIG ends Man U sponsorship

Manchester United may be the biggest football club in the world but that hasn’t stopped the global economic downturn affecting them. Their shirt sponsors AIG have announced they will not be renewing their deal when it expires in May 2010.

AIG have been paying the World Club champs £14m-a-year over 4 years but are in a financial pickle and have been handed a cool $150bn (£109bn) from the US government to save their bacon. (You’d presume the world’s biggest insurers would be insured wouldn’t you?)

Man U are said to be near completing a deal with their new sponsor for the 2010/11 season.
