AC Milan 2 – Man U 3

David Beckham played his first match against his old colleagues Manchester United in a thrilling Champions League clash last night (Feb 16), but sadly for him the glory wasn’t for his new team.

The first leg of the last 16 tie at the San Siro saw another match winning performance from shoe-in for player of season Wayne Rooney, who helped Man U score 3 to AC Milan’s 2. AC Milan took the lead after 3 minutes with a Ronaldinho deflected opener and all but dominated the first 60 minutes of the match except for a plucky Paul Scholes equaliser in the 36th minute.

In the second half Fergie’s men at times looked disorganised but took the lead with the first of two Rooney headers, before a frantic finale that saw a consolation goal from Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

Sir Alex will be pleased with their first ever win at the San Siro but it's a flattering score line considering Milan’s dominance and squandered chances. An injury time sending off for Michael Carrick after he picked up a second yellow for kicking the ball away was the only real blow for him, however. Three vital away goals put Man U as favourites to advance to the further stages when the two play their second leg at Old Trafford on March 10th.

Oh, and how did David Beckham do? The most attention he got was when he was substituted in the 72nd minute.
